Inktober 12, 13, & 14 (The leaves took 2 days. Does that count?)

Ivy and Acanthus. Now I just need to figure out what I'm drawing for the rest of the month.

I've been playing around with a small tin of Winsor & Newton cake watercolors. Similar to the grade-school 'Prang' watercolor tin, the paints were definitely student quality. That being said, I think my composition and rendering of these fall leaves is pretty flat and uninteresting.

Critique would be most welcome!

I like the bright red, but the purplish red leaf beneath comes forward way too much. It should be less intense and perhaps a little more blue-green to make it recede into the back & look like it's laying under the red leaf more.
close up of the one leaf I kind of like.
